Drug resistance is the state when antibiotics can no longer fight against diseases or not effective to the body.
Drug resistance occurs when germs like bacteria, viruses and fungi learn ways to avoid the effects of medicine.
Antibiotics are drugs used to treat diseases caused by bacteria. They kill bacteria or prevent it’s growth in the body. Example of such drugs include; ampiclox, ampicillin, fragyl, azithromycin, etc.
When you don’t finish your full dose, some bacteria do not die. They can instead become stronger and resist the medicine the next time you use it.
This is when a patient over uses a drug and the germs get used to that drug. It also leads to loss of money because the patient has to go back and buy another drug or get extra treatment.
When a patient did not get educated about drug prescription.
Drug prescription is the written information on a drug on how to use it.
If a person takes overdose or under dose, it leads to drug resistance.
For example when a patient is sick, gets some signs and symptoms but only treats the symptoms without treating the entire disease.
This makes the germs to be resistant and the symptoms will keep coming back after sometime.
When a person uses a drug for a long time the germs may become resistant to it.
Getting diseases through poor hygiene and sanitation makes people get sick. This makes them use drugs more often. This can lead to drug resistance
